A good hour drive east from the busy city Vancouver, BC., in the eastern part of the Fraser Valley lies a city called Chilliwack. Throughout the years, many immigrants have settled here. The Van den Bosch family has its roots in Holland, and moved to the Chilliwack area in 1972. Here in Chilliwack as well as in Holland, Van den Bosch Greenhouses has been famous for their quality fresh cut roses.
In 1975 the first greenhouses were built, to a total of 100,000 square feet today. Due to the ever increasing energy costs, such as heating and lighting, the company decided to explore crops which require less heat and lighting.
It was decided to grow Cymbidium Orchids. Since Orchids are very limited in British Columbia, we felt this market could be further developed. Orchids require very little heat and lighting in the winter months. In 2003 the first tiny plants were flown in. Cymbidium Orchids need about five years to mature into a producing plant. Throughout the years we have added new varieties and colors, totaling to 10,000 Cymbidium Orchid plants today.
The orchids bloom from late October to the end of May. Once cut they have an excellent vase life!
Come and browse our webpage or visit us here in Chilliwack, and we will be delighted to show you the beautiful orchids while they are in bloom.
Our hours are Monday to Saturday 8:00 to 5:00. Closed on Sundays.
